Relay for Life Weekend
Relay for Life was one of the best experiences on campus for me so far. There had been groups preparing for this event since January. The point of Relay for Life is to raise money for cancer victims. As a campus, we raised a ton of money. There was every sorority and fraternity on campus there, there was the exercise science group, there was the music group, everyone was there. The hours for Relay for Life are 6:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m. They seem unreal, right? No joke. I got to the site (intramural fields) around 7:00 p.m. and stayed till around 9:30 p.m., when I decided I needed a short break and went with some friends to see “Obsessed”, great movie. I highly recommend it. After the movie, we returned around midnight, only to see that the night had just begun. Kappa Sigma had constructed a jail and charged a dollar to put someone in jail, but two to bail them out, or three to bail themselves out. This seemed to be the entertainment of the evening and they must have made a lot of money. Another very popular fundraiser was Pi Kappa Alpha’s spraying war. They had a few brothers go around with water guns, and you could pay them a dollar to spray whoever you wanted. Needless to say, there were people being sprayed with water and put in jail all night long. The event ended up only lasting until 5:00 a.m., but it was still overly exhausting. I will never forget it though, having fun with your friends and raising money for a good cause is a great way to spend your Friday night. Though, the next morning was not as enjoyable, seeing as Phi Mu had to get up at 9:00 a.m. to do another fundraiser, but after all was said and done, it was all worth it knowing that you were helping someone else in need.
